Thursday belongs above all to Essen. Schachclub Weiße Dame Borbeck plays until late in the evening, Rochade Steele/Kray and SC Rochade Rüttenscheid meet the same night, and Schachklub Holsterhausen starts later in the evening. In Dortmund the Dortmunder Schachverein 1875 and the chess department of the Freier Sportverein von 1898 both keep a Thursday, the latter at the Haus der Vielfalt, and the Bochumer Schachverein 02 does the same in Bochum.

Further out, Schachgemeinschaft Drewer meets in Marl, Duisburg-Nord in Walsum, Caissa in Hamm-Pelkum, the TuS 08 chess department in Rheinberg and Schachgemeinschaft Wanne in Herne. Schachfreunde Kirchhellen in the north of Bottrop starts with an hour for children and juniors before the adults' evening, and Mülheim-Nord holds an afternoon session on Thursday in addition to its Friday night.
