Duisburg is where the Ruhr meets the Rhine, and its chess sits on both banks. On the left bank, Rheinhausen is the busiest corner: the chess department of OSC Rheinhausen 04 meets on Friday evenings and organises a whole series of its own: the Rheinhausener Meisterschaft, Schach in den Mai on the first of May and the Bergheimer Meisterschaft, a Swiss open that juniors are encouraged to play.
On the right bank, Schachgemeinschaft Meiderich/Ruhrort plays in Ruhrort, Duisburg-Nord in Walsum, Schachfreunde Brett vorm Kopp in Wanheimerort and the railway club Weiße Dame Wedau-Bissingheim in Buchholz, which opens its room in a former church on Wednesday and Friday. The chess department of the Polizeisport-Verein Duisburg completes the list. Duisburg clubs play in the leagues of the Lower Rhine federation.
