Tournaments for children and juniors 5

Junior chess in the Ruhr has its own small calendar of club-run tournaments. In Essen-Werden the local club holds the Werdener Jugendopen in autumn and the Nikolaus tournament in early December, open to all children and juniors. In Dortmund the Brackeler Jugendarena gathers several rating groups of under-twenties, and the youth open of the Dortmunder Schachverein 1875 at the Alte Schmiede in Huckarde fills a hall with children in age categories.

The Bergheimer Meisterschaft in Duisburg-Rheinhausen is an open for all ages, but another Duisburg club recommends it to its juniors as a first rated tournament. Youth leagues and championships of the federations are played as well, but they reach this list only through the clubs that take part.
